this inspired me to start reading in public. why dont i avoid doing that? i always felt self conscious and feel like I need to be on my phone or laptop instead lol! ty for sharing your thoughts and i always cheer when i see books I have read on someone else's list (yellowface easily the best read of the year for me!)
ah I love this!!!!! tbh I always feel sexy and mysterious when I'm reading in public. once you start getting the hang of it it, you're gonna feel naked without a book with you at all times haha
love this, taking notes!! i already bring a book everywhere, but would love to integrate reading dates with my friends into my schedule + making a more conscious effort to swap our reading for scrolling mindlessly on my phone until the last second before i shut my eyes to sleep <3
All of this is great advice that I will be taking to heart, but can I just say that I am very grateful for your vulnerability in admitting that you are not adept at cooking, cleaning, or the domestic arts? I sometimes feel like I'm going to remain unmarried forever because it doesn't come naturally to me. You married a good man, clearly—one who is supportive of your literary dreams and doesn't assume you must balance your serious work with the work that is "beneath" most men.
And I am thankful to you for admitting the same! Tbh I always thought domesticity was something I’d end up doing eventually, seeing my mom work multiple jobs at a time AND come home and cook and clean and when I married my partner I was like oh…. We’re allowed to have our own roles and mine doesn’t have to include that and I can’t believe there’s a guy out there that is ok with this dynamic. And the more I speak on it the more I hear more dynamics like this! It’s not common but it’s there and I hope you find it too :)
such an interesting piece & what made me hit subscribe was your list of recommended reads, as i’ve read a few of them and they’re forever faves of mine. looking forward to checking out your next recs and reading more of your thoughts!
Ah thank you for reading!! Which ones do you love too? I have lots of “recently read” pieces that cover all the books I’ve read in the past year or so and will be sharing those often!!
Tomorrow, Tomorrow and Tomorrow is up there as a forever favourite and i just finished Yellowface this week, which was I was not expecting to blow me away but it did!
Putting the Kindle app on my phone helped me read so much more. I still read a lot of paper books and bring them with me but you can't take them everywhere all the time (ie out for dinner in the evening with a small purse) or sometimes you're not in the mood for that specific book you chose to put in your bag that morning. Now I open the kindle app before any social media if I'm in a cab, waiting room etc.

totally makes sense!! I love that. I haven't done kindle yet but it does sound so convenient x
Love this! It’s all in the little swaps that encourage you to open a book instead of your phone in otherwise dead time.
I also do podcasts or call people while driving/cycling
