in my closet: my must have white tank, the only bra i wear and most worn sneakers
01: the pieces i wear on repeat and the ones i regret buying
In my last No one asked newsletter, I shared which pair of trousers were the hardest working in my wardrobe after many had asked about them in a recent post. As I’ve gotten older, I’ve noticed that I often reach for the same items over and over. I’m not sure if it’s because I’ve leaned more into what I like and what I feel my best in, if I’ve gotten sick of keeping up with all the newest trends, if I want to spend less time standing in front of my closet wondering what to wear, or all of the above. I’ve also noticed that when I do buy new clothes, I am usually unsatisfied with my purchases, returning most of them and sticking with the pieces I already have and love. With that said, in this new newsletter series, I’ll be sharing the pieces I constantly rewear and the items that gave me buyer’s remorse.
Like I’ve done with my empties, I’m sharing them to paid subscribers - those who really want to read my thoughts on products, rather than to thousands of people on Instagram — many who may be tempted to make a purchase on a whim.
Remember, only click on and purchase what you need. If you already have a white tank you love, don’t order another. If you have a go-to bag that goes with everything, keep it that way. And if you are thinking about buying any of the below, consider taking a few days to think about it before adding to cart. Recently, I’ve been adding all my “wants” to a spreadsheet, forcing myself to think on it rather than impulse buying and I’ve got to say — it’s really helped me shop less.
Below, you’ll find five favorites that I’m always reaching for and the items I wish I didn’t buy.
What I’m re-wearing:
Everlane Micro-Rib Short Tank: For years, I constantly raved about the Foundationals white tank, but I think I found a new favorite. Don’t get me wrong — the Foundationals one is still one I love and constantly wear. So much so, that I have a few of the same exact one to wear on rotation when one is in the wash. As someone who is petite, I love its length because it’s not long and hits just right and is thick enough where I don’t have to wear a bra (although my mom would have a different opinion). This Everlane one, though, is my current go-to because of how great it is for layering (pictured here). It’s super soft and thin — so you may need to wear a bra with it (or a great pair of sticky boobs) — but that’s what makes it so perfect for wearing under my favorite cardigans, v-neck cashmere sweaters, and around the house. It’s also cropped, which for me means it hits where I need it to hit and doesn’t bunch up like most tanks that are too long and have to be tucked into pants. I wear it so much that I think I need to order another so that I have a clean one ready to go when the other is too worn to wear.
